Punta Zorroza Urban Gardens, Bilbao

The introduction of the modular urban allotments at Punta Zorroza demonstrates how a disused industrial site can be transformed into a space promoting biodiversity, community involvement and urban regeneration. Developed by GITMA and forming part of Bilbao City Council’s Network of Urban Allotments, these raised allotments incorporate a system for collecting and reusing rainwater, which reduces maintenance and water consumption. After four years in operation, the project has established itself as a model of accessible, sustainable and replicable urban agriculture, capable of revitalising derelict spaces and creating new meeting places for the public.

ANDI Intelligent Pedestrian Crossing System, Laredo, Cantabria

The roll-out of the ANDI smart pedestrian crossing system in Laredo is an example of how technology can improve road safety and urban mobility without the need for major changes to the existing infrastructure. Developed and manufactured by GITMA, the system consists of a smart pedestrian beacon that detects the presence of pedestrians and activates high-visibility lighting to alert drivers in real time, thereby increasing safety at crossings. Its quick installation, low maintenance requirements and ability to integrate into established urban environments make ANDI an innovative, efficient and easily replicable solution for moving towards safer, more accessible and smarter cities.
